Well folks it's finally here. All the A-NETs are banded together through this
system of Echo messages. What makes this system work is YOU the user. With
your help by posting messages and answering a few questions, we can help each
other gain wisdom about this great little computer of ours.

Howdy A-NET systems! Those of you who have called CONNECTION or TRADING POST
may have seen some of my posts about what I have called SmartBASIC 1.x--a
series of updates and enhancements I made to SmartBASIC 1.0 to make it more
useful for ME, the programmer; and which I have since found there is a
considerable interest in by other ADAMites as well. Steve's ECHO system here
will make it easier for me to keep you all posted about the status of SB1.x,
and also allow YOU to have input into what features you'd like to see in it.
Right now I'm working on command-level access to serial I/O, either for modem
telecommunications or serial 80-column terminals. I'll be posting to ECHO
whenever something new happens. Thanks again, Steve, for a great service to
the A-NET ADAM community. Regards, Rich Drushel TC30 TP39

Hi Gerry!
Ya this new ADAM ECHO base looks like it's going to be pretty neat!
Beings that the BBS you use is also BASIC oriented (at least I think it is),
maybe the ECHO network could be worked in to your system as well?
I'll drop by your system again sometime and see what's going on in your neck
of the woods.

Back again to see what's happening in the ADAM world and find Alan Neeley has
acknowledged my call. Thanks Alan, and will be in touch with you on your SL
BBS. A few notes to those whom I know and figure should be contacting this
NETWORK:

Ron Mitchell...Thanks for the disks and the dedication to deliver that
material every month. Hope to get up to Edmonton one of these Friday Meeting
days and see the group, especially Tony Morehen.

Dean Roades... Have not forgotten you and will drop you and note and a copy of
of the docs for that super terminal program.

Zonker....For all the online time you spend, you could call Northern Link once
a year too.

Steve Major..... Would like to discuss a Hard Drive with you and the potentia
of using it on a BBS. My present software will not handle the HD as is, so
would consider one of you could provide BBS software that will.

All others.... Have you ever considered jut who the real Sol Swift might be?
Does anyone really know him? Has anyone ever seen him face to face? I have
some clues, but would need more info to confirm a real identity. Anyone
interested in tracking the phantom down can contact me and see what kind of a
brace of bloodhounds we could make.... Might generate a lot of excitement if
we could get some dialogue going toward this end.

Hello Alan. I am writing to ask a couple of questions. D you know when
if at all there is going to be a REAL file transfer protocol available
for the ADAM. And 2 if there isnt one in the works can you work with
a PASCAL routine and convert it to the ADAM? 3. is XMODEM (at the last
even possible in a basic environment. 4. can it be written in machine
code and called by the BBS. 4. Would you like all of my YMODEM and XMODME
routines that I have in PASCAL for the BBS that I run?

Just trying to help out! Would love to see the ADAM become a true driving
force in the BBS World it would prove all doubters wrong!

A few problems were found in this first run of the program (it's easy to program something for your own system, but not someone else
few months here's what you can look forward to:

1/ A new text editor/text display that will be VERY fast and allow better use
of the echo and eventually all the A-NET systems... thanks to Pete Ames!!!

2/ You may notice that when you leave the ECHO area and you didn't read
anything new at all, or post anything, the system STILL will update your
records thus wasting your on-line time... this problem has been corrected on
my version and you'll see it soon everywhere else.

3/ When reading the messages you may notice no way to stop reading the actual
message text... the new version will let you abort this read with the
standard press of the [spacebar].

Finally, SYSOP's- the utility program is being rewritten... you will most
likely be able to let it automatically count and sort your messages and fix
your Emsg.dat file. Also some of the other little bugs in it will be
corrected and the entire program will be rewritten.

Thanks for all the great comments on this area... I hope it can only get

better and better and I'll do my best to satify all of you... thanks again!
