Subject: disc drive woes

Having a vast fund of ignorance on all subjects relating to
computers and electronics, I would never want you to take any-
thing I have to say on the subject as the whole or only answer.
All I can do is report my own experience and hope this gives
you a clue as to where to start looking for the answers you need.
For what it is worth, Mark Gordon (Micro Innovations) told me
that the drive mechanisms used in the MI disc drives were your
standard DOS double-density generics. He did engineer a new
controller board, but as far as I can figure out this was to get
away from the Adam's notorious hot spot. At any rate he did tell
me that by replacing the Coleco eprom in the Coleco controller
board with an MI eprom, the Coleco would then work with the
generic DOS drive. Mark wrote the necessary code and burned his
own eproms. The chips he used are marked "MBM 2732A-25" and
"8652 W 17" which may mean something to you. Or, if you can
find out where Mark Gordon is now (he was working for TRW in
its air traffic control section, if I recall; I don't know if he
left or was transferred) maybe you can pick up any useful
information from him. -
