Several new hardware devices were demo-
nstrated at ADAMCON 01. Micro Innovati-
ons presented POWERMATE 2/4. This prod-
uct offers a combination of a parallel
interface, two RS-232 serial interface-
s, up to two Hard Drives (in a variety
of sizes), and up to two floppy disk d-
rives (in a variety of sizes). All of
this is housed in its own cabinent and
connects to ADAM through a card that f-
its in slot #2.
TriSyd Video Games introduced two new
products - an Audio Digitizer and an i-
nternal clock chip. The digitizer can
take any sound transfer it into data a-
nd have the ADAM reproduce the exact s-
ame sound. The clock chip is a tiny ch-
ip that keeps track of time. It has be-
en designed so that it plugs within th-
e ADAM or within the digitizer itself.
Syd Carter also hinted that he may mak-
e an interface that will allow any int-
ernal IBM SmartMODEM to connect to ADA-
M through Slot #1.
Chris Brayman demonstrated a MIDI int-
erface that allowed ADAM to play synth-
esized music. It was simply astounding
to hear the sounds that were being pla-
yed! This thing was able to create gui-
tar, piano, drums, and many other soun-
ds ALL playing in harmony at once!
 Further explanation of these hardware
devices is contained within the files
using the product's name as a title.
 Several other hardware products were
on display such as the new MEGA Expand-
er by E&T, John Lingrel's hard drive s-
ystem. And of course, there were many
of the other Hardware products on disp-
lay that have been available for some
time.

ADAMCON 01 NEWS:2
Several new software products were on
display at ADAMCON 01. Of course, it t-
akes a software program to take the ne-
w hardware devices being attached to A-
DAM to make them work. The software us-
ed by PowerMATE was a BIOS patch of CP-
/M (hopefully T-DOS and EOS drivers wi-
ll be designed for this device as well-
). Syd Carter's two new products had E-
OS software that operated them. The DY-
NOMITE software displayed an oscillato-
r type view of the sounds that the dig-
itizer was taking in. It also displaye-
d the time (up to 100's of a second) a-
nd the date. Chris Brayman used a modi-
fied version of VideoTUNES to command
the MIDI synthesizer to play in 8 diff-
erent octives at the same time. He als-
o had a program operating under CP/M t-
hat could play music as well as record
what he played on the synthesizer's ke-
yboard.
There were other new software product-
s on display too. Walters Software pre-
sented their latest release - a game c-
alled "The Vase of Turr". They also pr-
esented a new file and disk utility pa-
ckage that comes in cartridge form. Te-
rry Cairns had his on-line games for t-
he A-NET system available. Terry also
had several of Superior Software's pro-
ducts on display (which I understand t-
hat he has acquired the rights for). T-
ony Patterson did a demonstration on t-
he upcoming product GODOS with GOBASIC-

Further information on some of these
new products can be found in the G fil-
e area under the title of the product.

ADAMCON 01 NEWS:3
The following is a brief report of the
events that took place at ADAMCON...
The Convention opened up on the night
of the seventh with welcoming remarks
made by John Terry (president of MOAUG-
). Jay Foreman (of MW Ruth Co.) follow-
ed with a great speech on the history
of ADAM - starting with its beginnings
and following it through to where it i-
s today. The first day closed with a r-
eception so that poeple could get to k-
now each other. A few people (includin-
g myself) carried it on into the wee h-
ours in the hotel's lounge After the g-
eneral reception came to a close. (NOT-
E: there were bull sessions held in th-
e lounge nearly EVERY night during the
convention that were not only enjoyabl-
e but we actually got some stuff taken
care of - problem is that none of us w-
ho attended can remember what it was).
Day 2 started with a discussion of re-
pairing the ADAM computer presented by
Phil Kosowski (a former Coleco employe-
e). Next, those at the convention were
broke up into groups and were rotated
through several sessions. These sessio-
ns included PowerMATE (a product demon-
stration by Mike Gordon), TELECOMMUNIC-
ATIONS (with Terry Cairns as speaker a-
nd assisted by Alan Neeley), and CP/M
(with Ronald Collins as speaker). Inas-
much that I was assisting Terry with t-
he Telcommunications discussion, I did
not get a chance to see all of the oth-
er sessions. I can tell you this thoug-
h that the PowerMATE demo was getting
GREAT support (judged by the cheers an-
d claps coming from that room).
The rotating seminars were then follow-
ed with a seminar on ADAMCalc which wa-
s presented to the convention goers as
a whole group. Day 2 then came to a cl-
ose with several ADAM product develope-
rs demonstrating their products. 3 new
and upcoming ADAM products were demons-
trated during this time: Syd Carter's
Audio Digitizer and Clock Chip and Mic-
ro Innovation's PowerMATE 2 hardware p-
ackage. Walters Software Company had t-
he new "The Vase of Turr" game and the-
ir Utility cartridge on display.
Day 3 started with a discussion on how
to build a super-charged User's group.
There was a panel of 4 ADAMites (David
Cobley, Howard Pines, Jim Notini, and
Terry Cairns) who were there to help s-
hare some ideas and move the discussio-
n along. Some of the ideas that were p-
revalant here were to find a way to ge-
t your User's Group known (through Toy
stores. computer stores, whatever) and
to find a way to get to and keep the u-
sers interested.
The group then broke down into severa-
l groups again and went into the rotat-
ing seminar mode. This time Pat Herrin-
gton did a demonstration on the PowerP-
AINT program, Ron Collins did one on C-
P/M and using graphics (PrintMASTER),
and Walters Software demonstrated thei-
r new utility program on a cartridge.

The convention then ended early for th-
e day and everyone went their separate
ways and enjoyed the great city of Orl-
ando.
Day 4 was the last day of the convent-
ion and probably the most productive a-
s far as discussions go. The morning s-
tarted off with ADAM and the future as
the topic. A panel of 5 ADAMites were
there to share their ideas on the subj-
ect. They include: Dave Snowden, Faye
B. Deere, Jim Notini, Pat Herrington,
and Jay Foreman. Many ideas were prese-
nted here that would help boost ADAM i-
nto the future for years to come. Some
of these ideas included attempting to
spread information to get the word out
about the ADAM, it's support groups, a-
nd many advantages. Also discussed was
the doing away of unfair competition a-
mongst ADAM developers. Jay Foreman me-
ntioned that he had a data base contai-
ning some 50,000 ADAM owners that need
to be reached. EVERYONE agreed that th-
ere should be future ADAM conventions
to bring the ADAM community together t-
o get some kind of direction going. (f-
uture sites being considered are the T-
oronto area and the Chicago area).
The groups then broke down into 3 sem-
inars were each person could attend th-
e seminar of their choosing. Alan Neel-
ey headed a discussion on general prog-
reamming concepts of SmartBASIC, Tony
Morehen headed a discussion on advance-
d used of BASIC programming, and Tony
Patterson and Ron Collins did a demons-
tration on GoDOS with GoBASIC.
Everyone was treated to lunch while C-
hris Brayman demonstrated his MIDI int-
erface. We were treated with everythin-
g from rock'n'roll to synthesized Bach-

ing at work!
 More demonstrations followed and then
The ADAM SWAP STORE was setup. The sto-
re was a great success with many peopl-
e purchasing more than they had planne-
d on (to the enjoyment of those who we-
re selling).Ed Jenkins sold ALL of the
Megaexpanders he brought and even back-
ordered 1 or 2 while he was there. Wal-
ters Software sold have of the invento-
ry that they brought. The SoftWORKS Fa-
ctory and NIAD were also busy making s-
ales.
After the store closed up, everyone w-
ent and prepared for the closing of th-
e convention. This was held in a delig-
htful place called Church Street Stati-
on were dinner was served at Lilly Mar-
lene's private parlor. Many people exp-
ressed how much of a success that they
felt ADAMCON was and mentioned that th-
ey would miss the many friends that ha-
d been made there. After dinner, every-
one went their separate ways and enjoy-
ed what Church Street had to offer.
IN MY EYES ADAMCON 01 was a BIG SUCCE-
SS!!!

Micro Innovations of Reston, Virginia
is near completion of a new product ca-
lld POWERMATE. This new hardware produ-
ct will provide the ADAM with 2 RS-232
interfaces, 1 parallel port, 1 or 2 ha-
rd drives (10, 20, 30 meg), and 1 or t-
wo floppy disk drives (360 or 720K). A-
ll of this is housed in an external ch-
asis and connects to the ADAM with a c-
ard that goes in slot #2.
Retail price for this product should
go around $399 for the 10 meg, $499 fo-
r the 20 meg, and $599 for 30 meg (tha-
t's right the HD mechanics are include-
d in these prices...)

ADAMCON 01 NEWS:5
Syd Carter has introduced several of h-
is workings here at ADAMCon.
First, although he will not be produc-
ing the SydMODM any longer, he has ann-
ounced that he is working on an interf-
ace that will allow ADAM owners to go
out and purchase an internal SmartMODE-
M and connect it inside the ADAM. Se-
cond, Syd has introduced a CLOCK chip
that will sell fro around $40. This de-
vice is different than earlier ADAM cl-
ocks in that it is a CHIP that plugs i-
n a empty socket on ADAM's circuit boa-
rd. It can also be installed inside th-
e new AUDIO digitizer if preferred and
will sell for about $10 cheaper than i-
f purchased seperately. This clock eve-
n offers 100th's of a second!
Third (and the most exciting), is tha-
t Syd demo'd a fantastic new product c-
alled the DYNOMITE Audio Digitizer!!!
This product can take ANY sound (music-
, voice, whatever) and convert it into
data that will allow the ADAM to repro-
duce the sounds (even without the digi-
tizer installed)... This will definite-
ly usher in a WHOLE new dimension to t-

ADAMCON 01 NEWS:7
During luchtime on the 4th day of the
convention, Chris Brayman demonstrated
a project that he has been working on.-

h the aid of ADAM) to play some very n-
ice synthesized music...
Chris had software operating the MIDI
device from both CP/M and EOS (VideoTU-
NES). The synthesizer is connected to
ADAM through a serial interface (sligh-
tly modified)... The software would ta-
ke digital data and send it to the syn-
thesizer for playing... Chris was also
able to play stuff from the synthesize-
r's keyboard, record it, AND play it b-
ack again...
Although Chris is not ready to market
this product at this time, I think the
ENCOURAGING responses he got from thos-
e at the convention will make him cons-
ider it...
ADAMCON 01 NEWS:8
Terry Cairns was at the convention and
he brought with him the on-line games
for the A-NET system. These games were
on display at the convention's BBS but
I don't think anyone was aware of it.
Terry has done an excellent job on tho-
se games that I have played so far in
3 different catagories: Sports, Casino-
, and Mind Skills. He is also working
on more games and boasts that someday
there will around 200 of these on-line
games available.
ALL games in the above three catagori-
es will be available on this system fo-
r the users to play as soon as I get a
chance to add them.
Those A-NET operators who are interes-
ted in these games can purchase them t-
hrough Terry Cairns for a price of $20
per game disk (they are expected to go
up to $30 by years end so better grab
them now).

ADAMCON 01 NEWS:9
Walters Software Company was represent-
ed at the convention by both James and
Bruce Walters (Bruce is Jim's twin bro-
ther which heretofore, had not been kn-
own by the ADAM community).
Their new game "The Vase of Turr" was
released just in time for the conventi-
on and this game was a good seller for
them there. The Vase of Turr offers gr-
aphics comparable to that of Temple of
the Snow Dragon. It is very user frien-
dly making use of the SmartKEY interfa-
ce and offering a ongoing MESSAGE LINE
that scrolls across the bottom of the
screen (just above the SmartKey labels-
) that keeps the user informed of what
is happening in the game. The game can
be saved at any point and reloaded lat-
er and can also be transferred onto th-
e larger memory expanders (128K or lar-
ger) so that it will operate faster.
I haven't had much of a chance to pla-
y the game yet, but I can tell that it
is going to be a hard one already. The
object of the game is to find the valu-
ed 'Vase of Turr' hidden deep within t-
he caves of Wris. I find it very diffi-
cult moving around the caves as it all
seems to look the same. I keep going i-
n circles (which I guess is a typical
occurence when dwelling in caves). Onc-
e or twice I have found my way out of
the caves by walking through a waterfa-
ll. I've also run into a spider who li-
kes to take your possessions away. Any-
body else have any better luck?
WSC also presented a new concept for
an EOS Utility package. This conglomer-
ate of options offers the user everyth-
ing they need to manage EOS files and
disks. The nice thing about this produ-
ct is that it is contained on a CARTRI-
DGE so that it can be instantly booted
at any time!
