                    ADAM NEWS NETWORK DISK #1

A special offer by Chris Braymen of Bonafide Systems, and an ANN
Staff member:

Hi Folks,

I'd like to put together a collection of "Holiday greeting cards"
from as many Adamites as I can. The resulting program will
display the "cards" like a slide show with holiday music playing
in the background. I will post the final program here in early
December [Editor's note - he will post on CIS and we will carry
a sample program in the December ANN] and make an attempt to find
additional distribution.

If you would like to submit a "card", please send your graphic
picture file to:

           Chris Braymen
           45280 S. Oakview Dr.
           Oakhurst, CA 93644

or Email it to me (binary) on CIS at 70057,2035

I would prefer HGR type files but can handle Powerpaint files,
Binary 10K, LOGO pictures, SmartPaint files and maybe others.
Since this will be a public domain program, please do not submit
copyrighted material. If you want me to return your disk or tape
please include return postage.

Please distribute this to as many Adamites as you can and let's
see what happens! Thanks, Chris

NOW - BACK TO THE NOVEMBER ANN DISK

With the exception of two SmartBasic programs, the November ANN
consists entirely of articles. Almost all of them are from
familiar sources. They are superior writings on the ADAM and
related subjects. We are very appreciative of our contributors
and we value and encourage their continued ADAM publications.

The fact is, however, that there are fewer and fewer people
writing articles on ADAM subjects. Indeed, there is clear
evidence that this is a symptom of something more serious that is
happening within the ADAM community.

Specifically, there is a serious decline in the membership in
AUG's and in the willingness of current members to participate in
AUG activities. Having run AUG's since 1985, I can testify that
it has always been easier to get people to attend AUG meetings
than to get them to deliver presentations during a meeting or to
provide the Newsletter Editor with an article. Now, apparently,
it is difficult even to get members to attend AUG meetings.

Attendance in most ADAM User's Group meetings is down to just a
few avid ADAM users. (and I would sure welcome news that this is
not the case)

I suspect, even this is symptomatic. At the root of the above
problems, I believe, is the overall decline in the use of the
ADAM generally. And if we are not addressing each of the causes
of the above conditions, we will not materially affect the number
and activity level of AUG membership.

ACCORDINGLY, I WOULD LIKE TO INVITE ANN SUBSCRIBERS TO SUBMIT
COMMENTS AND IDEAS ABOUT THIS SUBJECT. Areas of input could be:

> OBSERVATIONS ON CURRENT MEMBERSHIP AND ACTIVITY LEVELS
> OPINIONS ON CAUSES AND (perhaps more important) SOLUTIONS
> SHARING OF INFO ON ACTIVITIES THAT WORK, OR HAVE NOT WORKED
> PROMOTION OF PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS/IDEAS TO OTHER ANN READERS
WHICH MIGHT HAVE A POSITIVE INFLUENCE ON AUG MEMBERSHIP etc.

Beginning with the DECEMBER ANN, we will initiate a series of
articles which deals with the above topics and contains
information received from ANN readers. Bob Blair
                                            361 Eden Drive
                                            Englewood, FL
                                            34223
                                Voice: 813-475-4219
                                BBS (24hrs):813-473-2905 8

NOW - what is in this ANN publication? Well the first article is
related to the above topic. When you read it, I encourage you to
take it as positive input, especially if you are an ANN staff
member and labor long and hard to serve the ADAM community.
Responsible supporting and opposing points of view will be
published in future ANN issuances, of course. However if we use
the following short article from Faye and Norman Deere as a
springboard to positive action, we will provide a genuine service
to ourselves and the entire ADAM Community.
