FINICKY Micro Innovations disk drive

I have been presented with an MI 360K floppy that no longer
reads or writes. I have swapped out the controller board for
a new one with no success. I reinstalled the controller board
and swapped out the drive mechanism with no success. I do not
believe both are faulty and suspect the likelier culprit is
the drive mechanism. I suspect the lack of success is due to a
type mismatch between components. I have noticed on the MI
drives that some controllers run three power wires to the drive,
others four. I notice that various makes of drives were used
- Shugart, Fujitsu, etc. It's also possible some of the surplus
drive mechanisms I have may have the wrong jumper settings,
although I have tried to find and correct this.

So - does anyone know which MI controller boards are which, in
terms of which drive mechanisms they work with. Also, does anyone
have any idea what the critical jumper settings on any of the
various mechanisms might be? I'd like to get this drive working
again for a user who needs it badly. Does anyone have a clue
that might help? -
Rich Clee
